Is clár idirnáisiúnta é Fréamhacha Ionbhánna cruthaithe ag Mary Gordon i gCeanada i 1990. Tá sé faoi lánseoil i mbreis agus seachtó scoil in Éirinn go dtí seo.  Bíonn ceacht déanta uair sa tseachtain agus tagann máthair agus a leanbh ar cuairt gach mí. Foghlaimíonn na páisti cuid mhór ag breathnú ar an leanbh agus é/í ag fás agus ag athrú sa chéad bhliain iontach seo. Thar na míonna bíonn caidreamh agus nasc ar leith idir an rang and an leanbh.

Tá léir mór taighde déanta a léiríonn go laghdaíonn FI bulaíocht agus iompar bagrach agus go gcuireann sé le cumas soisialta agus mothúchánach. Forbraíonn ionbhá agus na pásití ag foghlaim faoi mhothúcháin an bhabaí, ansin a gcuid mothúcháin agus de réir a chéile mothúcháin daoine eile.

ROOTS OF EMPATHY

Roots of Empathy is an international programme developed in 1990 in Canada by Mary Gordan. It is slowly spreading across the world and is being delivered in about 70 schools in Ireland so far. The programme is being enjoyed by Junior Infants this year. They receive a lesson each week and a mother and her baby visit the class every month. The children gain vast experience observing this baby and watching it change and grow during the amazing first year of a baby’s life. A special bond is formed during this time.

ROE is an evidence based programme that has been proven to reduce bullying and aggression and to increase social and emotional competence. Empathy (the ability to understand how another person feels) is fostered as the children learn about the baby’s feelings, in turn their own feelings and consequently the feelings of others.

Múinteoir Sharon delivers the programme. More information on www.rootsofempathy.org
